Origin of Tripuraneni people

Origin of Tripuraneni people

It dates back to Kakatheeya empire days ruled by king Prathaparudra. (12th and 13th centuries) Sambhudu No.1, was the first( as far as it could be dated back )was a contemporary and connected with Prathaparudra. He was an army chief defending the areas around that region.(Warangal. Bhadrachalam and areas around) The surname Tripuraneni / Tipirineni was not established by then. His son Papayya was a favourite of the Nawabs(Muslim rulers) who were ruling around that area around the same time. He was given as a gift by the Nawab as much land as he could till from sunrise to sunset. It was a town called Pasamarru which is in the modern day Krishna District of Andhra pradesh.. He extended that gradually and started ruling three towns around, being a kshatriya by birth.Because he was ruling three towns the family title was given as Tripuraneni(Tripura means three cities/towns and Neni eventually was transformed from the word or nayudu perhaps nayakudu which means leader or ruler.).

Another explanation given is the original surname was Tipirineni which was divided into three clans as it was very extensive a few hundred years ago and as it was causing problems for deaths , births and marriages, out of which Tripuraneni is one. Anyway Sambhudu No.2(son of Papayya) is the Great great great grandfather of Tripuraneni family. This is the information passed on from one generation to another by word of mouth. There is some written evidence in the history books.

Also there is another version which states that there was village in Ballari district called Tripurala. Sambhudu, Peerneedu, Ramineedu and their sister Janakamma were living there and the men were ruling the area around and were very rich Jameendaris holding a few thousand acres of land). To protect their sister from the Muslim raids, they moved to Angalur in Krishna District and started their life. They were already bearing the surname Tripuraneni.

The reason of putting all of this here is for future generations those who are interested in their roots, for those who are born and brought up in foreign lands will never know, otherwise. It is a proud history which every Tripuraneni child should know. For selfish reasons some people have shortened and distorted the original surname thinking it is unfashionable. The Tripuraneni clan settled down in Angalooru which was originally named as Angalla Ooru. It was bustling with shops(Angallu) and business as it was the only town for the travelling soldiers to stock up their foods for their journey and(probably the raids). Ooru means town. It was later modified as Angalur. It has become a place for Sanskrit Pandits, Vedic Pandits, Ashtavadhanis(answering eight people at the same time), and Sathavadhanis, (answering one hundred people at the same time)musicians, artists, and poets .Angalur was famous for starting an all girls’high school taught by women teachers well over two hundred years ago. (late 18th/ early19th century)

In all the three clans there were a number of academics and literary people. But here only the Tripuraneni people are taken into account. There are numerous academics who achieved the highest place in their chosen careers and served the communities in their own way. But here only few people over the last few generations young and old whose outstanding contributions are noteworthy either social uplift or literary awards or research contributions are mentioned. Angalur has also produced its fair share of freedom fighters at the time of Indian independence movement to fight against the British and release the country from slavery which was going on for three hundred years and causing hardships for people. Again only a few from Tripuraneni family are mentioned here.
